Launch of new Funding and Research website

Lilian ClarkWelcome to the new Funding and Research section of Cancer Research UK's website. We had three aims in mind when redeveloping this site.

We wanted to showcase our exceptional researchers and the high-quality work they are doing. To do that, we have completely updated the directory of our researchers and grants. To help you find the information you want, not only can you search the whole directory but you can also filter it. If you want to read about research in a particular location, in a certain cancer type or in a particular field of research, you can now find out about our work in these areas, and in many others. Also, for the first time, detailed scientific information is presented alongside more general summaries in plain English wherever possible, so that you can decide what level of detail you would like to read.

We hope that making information about our research more accessible will help our researchers collaborate with each other and with other researchers across the world.

We wanted to make it easier to find information about our funding schemes and our funding committees and so encourage more people to apply for Cancer Research UK funding and for jobs in our Institutes and Centres. You can find grants by funding type, by the committee that runs the scheme, by the type of research you want to do, or simply look at an A-Z list of all of our schemes. Once you've found the one you are looking for, you can find out who has been granted that award most recently.

We hope that you enjoy using our new website. It will be updated regularly, and we will continue to develop new sections to provide more information about what research we fund and how we fund it. If you have any comments on the site, suggestions for new content or if you have noticed any problems that need to be corrected, please let us know by filling in the Contact us form.

ECMC Network website launched

The Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) Network launched its web presence today at www.ecmcnetwork.org.uk.

The ECMCs network is a major joint initiative between Cancer Research UK and the Departments of Health in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to drive the development of biomarkers and new anti-cancer treatments. The network funders will invest £35 million into the initiative, launched in October 2006 over the next five years. The network comprising 19 centres of scientific and clinical excellence aims to speed up development of translational research by evaluating new drugs and individualising patient treatment.

The network's web presence is part of the centres efforts to communicate their research focus and activities to their peers as well as cancer patients and the general public. The website also links to details of clinical trials being co-ordinated by scientists based at one of the 19 centres.

For more information about the ECMC Network, visit the ECMC website.
